Gien Slurn: The Classic of Purity

Yin-Yang

“The benevolent Yin obscures all, and the result of this appears as darkness.
Darkness within darkness, that is the gate to all that is subtle and wonderful.
The devoted Yang illuminates the darkness, and the result of this is called learning.
Learning within learning, that is the key to all that is subtle and wonderful.“

天地
Heaven-Earth

“Heaven and earth do not end, and there is no man who does not die,
Spring, summer, autumn, and winter change without resolve,
The future does not worry, and the past does not yearn,
Even if one conquers five continents, the coffin will be but five steps long.”

形心
Extraversion-Introversion

“The external self as flowing water becomes the external selfless,
As a stream under heaven, it advances but does not arrive.
The internal self as still water becomes the internal selfless,
As a lake underground, it reflects but does not reveal.”

Love-Hate

Love is diligence in understand something and, thus, seeing its subtleties,
Like a scholar who refines their wisdom with every word they read.
Hate is diligence in not understand something and, thus, losing ones way,
Blinding oneself gazing at the sun, each step becomes a path of empty suffering.

沉游
Failure-Success

“Branches float down the river and the waves block your view.
Do they sink below into oblivion, or do they make their way to shore?
Even though the grains of sand are plentiful beyond imagining, the water still flows without end.
And even if you fill your ears with sand, the water may ripple when you least expect it.”
